Pigmentation Issues

Our melanin-rich skin tells a story, but sometimes, unexpected patches or uneven tones can leave us with more questions than answers. Enter decoloration and hyperpigmentation. Decoloration often appears as lighter or faded patches on the skin, like a canvas waiting for its next splash of color. On the flip side, hyperpigmentation is when our skin goes into overdrive, producing more melanin in certain areas, leading to darker patches or spots. These changes can be sparked by various factors, from sun exposure to injuries, hormonal changes, or even certain skin products. While they’re a common chapter in the narratives of many Black women, understanding the origins and expressions of these conditions is the first step to reclaiming our skin’s narrative. Let’s journey together, unveiling the layers and mysteries of our skin’s ever-evolving story.
